How to Read Tire Sizes

Reading your tires can seem like reading a foreign language to some. You recognize the letters and numbers but they don't appear to be in any discernible order that you recognize. That's why our experienced crew at Toyota West want to be sure that you know exactly how to read your tire size.

First, the "P" you see means its a passenger vehicle, the most common type of tire on the road today. Second, there will be a number that indicates the width of the tire tread in millimeters. Then, after the dash, you will see the aspect ration as a percent which is the ratio of the height to the width of the tire. Next, you will probably see an "R" meaning you have radial tires followed by a two digit number indication the diameter of the tire.

If you need additional help reading your tires or see additional markings that you don't recognize, then stop on by to see us at our Toyota dealership at any time. We're always happy to help!
